Mission Viejo Thanksgiving Celebration
A website he can change by sending a text message
Dr. Schubert, a psychologist of 46 years, was launching three things at once: a first-annual community Thanksgiving celebration for the whole of Mission Viejo, a mental health foundation named for his parents, and an author catalogue for his five books. He had no web presence at all. Three cross-linked sites shipped across roughly seventeen pages, live on custom domains eleven days after the first call.
The Challenge
He had tried a DIY site builder a year or two earlier and abandoned it — his words were that it got too confusing. So the constraint was never building a site; it was building one he would still be updating in two years without a developer and without learning a CMS. The foundation site also had to carry legally careful language while its 501(c)(3) determination was still pending.
Our Solution
Content lives in one file per site, separate from design, so a change is a reviewable commit rather than a live edit. Three ways in: a Google Doc per site with a verified round-trip and fuzzy matching, so a typo corrects a record instead of duplicating it; a password-gated form editor that commits and triggers a deploy; and plain English by text message. Nine visual themes run off one shared engine, so he chose a look and it carried through every page. The domains were registered in his name, not ours.
Results
- Three sites live on client-owned custom domains
- First deploy the same day as the planning call
- Eleven days from first conversation to live
- Nine visual themes from a single content source
- Zero CMS logins required of the client
- Every content change versioned and instantly reversible
